IronHack’s Prework: Design Thinking Challenge 1. UrbanGo to the next level
Info on the company as an introduction.
UrbanGo. A startup company from Silicon Valley that offers city travellers a platform for all their travel needs. Users can choose between different modes of mobility when they need to go from A to B. All through a single application. I got the assignment from Iron Hack to assis UrbanGo in finding a solution on the user centered problem of needing to buy several tickets on several locations in order to travel.
The main problems you found when you interviewed users.
City travellers contain people of all kind of demographic characteristics. From flexible youngsters to elderly that might face the challenge of physically switching transport. All of them sometimes need an overview of the shortest and less expensive route to get from A to B. Elderly are not very keen on using a mobile app during travelling. They want to prepare their trip ahead. Youngsters do not mind using their phone during travelling and are comfortable with it. Both groups are tired of purchasing tickets during travelling. It is annoying and can bring trouble when facing long lines and a tight time-schedule.
What is the main problem that you are trying to solve?
How might we offer a comfortable way of purchasing travel tickets upfront after deciding on the favourite route and transport modes.
How you planned to solve this problem?
Elderly can pay upfront and receive a reminder to organise their trip one hour before taking off. They will set an alarm for reminding the travels. Youngsters can pay immediately without any alarm.
Share a few key things that you learned throughout this process.
During a Design Thinking project you should really be aware of the target group. The end-users of the product or service. So it might also be the case that for the person that is undertaking the eventual travel, another end-user is helping organise the trip by using the mobile app. It is necessary to identify these different groups within the target group and figure out whether they long for different functionalities.
